Fabric:
1 layer cake
1 1/2 yds field fabric (I used white)
3 1/4 yds of fabric for backing (if piecing the back, can use 2 yds of one fabric, plus extra fabric for piecing a design)
1/2 yd fabric for a 2 1/4" binding, OR 5/8 yd for a 2 1/2" binding (the larger binding is easier to work with for beginners)
Other materials:
quilt batting, measuring at least 64" by 74" (I prefer Warm and Natural cotton batting)
neutral-colored thread
pins
scissors for cutting fabric, and snips for cutting threads
curved safety pins or basting spray
quilting ruler, cutting mat, and rotary cutter, if you have them
sewing machine
your sewing machine manual, any additional feet for your sewing machine
*a walking foot is highly recommended for machine quilting
